HBO Max is in a celebratory mood this weekend, and it’s not because of the holidays.
The popular streamer just added one of 2025’s most critically acclaimed movies to its library — One Battle After Another. After grossing $200 million worldwide, the Leonardo DiCaprio comedy is now available to watch at home.
Other notable movies Watch With Us is recommending you watch this weekend include the animated sequel Ne Zha 2, which is still the highest-grossing film this year, and the romantic dramedy Table 19 with Anna Kendrick.
‘One Battle After Another’ (2025)
Every year, there’s one film that’s generally accepted to be the best, and in 2025, it’s One Battle After Another. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the acclaimed movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob Ferguson, a stoned-out former revolutionary on the run from the authorities. When his teenage daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti), becomes the target of an old adversary, Steven Lockjaw (Sean Penn), Bob has to reunite his anti-establishment buddies, the French 75, to stop Lockjaw and save Willa from certain death.
Like most good movies, One Battle After Another defies description. Is it an action movie? Kinda. A thriller? Sure. A black comedy? Well, I laughed, especially whenever Benicio del Toro, who stars as Bob’s paranoid buddy Sergio, was onscreen. Like most great movies, One Battle After Another defies description. What can be said about it is that it’s entertaining, profound and a film that feels of the moment. Twenty years from now, if someone asks which film accurately depicts what it was like to live in 2025, One Battle After Another is the only correct answer.
One Battle After Another is now streaming on HBO Max.
‘Ne Zha 2’ (2025)
HBO Max just added the highest-grossing movie of 2025, and no one knows about it. No, I’m not talking about Zootopia 2 or A Minecraft Movie — I’m talking about Ne Zha 2, the hit animated movie that made most of its $1.9 billion in its native homeland of China. When best friends Ne Zha (voiced by Griffin Puatu) and Ao Bing (Aleks Le) are forced to share the same body, they have to learn to share — or else Ao Bing will disappear forever. Soon, an alternative emerges — Ao Bing can get a new body if they both complete three trials of courage and fortitude. Sounds easy, right? But what if this contest is a distraction for a larger game at play, one that could see their homeland destroyed?
If you’re not well-versed in Chinese mythology or haven’t seen the original Ne Zha, you might feel a little lost, but it’s worth it. This sequel boasts some stunning animation, with visuals you won’t find in your average Disney or DreamWorks spectacle. Even though its complicated plot may confuse some Western audiences, Ne Zha 2 is a fun, if occasionally bewildering, adventure that will make you understand why practically everyone in China saw it and craves Ne Zha 3.
Ne Zha 2 will stream on HBO Max on December 20.
‘Table 19’ (2017)
Eloise McGarry (Kendrick) doesn’t want to attend her best friend’s wedding, but she has no choice — she helped plan it! That’s why she knows that when she’s moved to table 19 for the reception, she’s been cast away with “the misfits,” people too weird or sad to talk to. When Eloise runs into her ex-boyfriend Teddy (Wyatt Russell), she thinks her day can’t get any worse. But her new misfit friends believe a romantic spark still exists between the former couple and encourage Eloise to give love another try.
Sweet and old-fashioned, Table 19 is a rom-com for everyone who thinks they lost the game of love and wants to opt out. As the table of weirdos, an all-star cast of character actors like Lisa Kudrow, June Squibb and Craig Robinson provide the requisite amount of laughs and support, while Kendrick is reliably entertaining as the misanthropic Eloise, who isn’t as cynical as she thinks she is. Table 19 is a low-key charmer that gives you a happy ending that may have evaded you in real life. Isn’t that what movies are for?
