Woman Arrested for Placing Razor Blades in Bread Loaves at 2 Walmarts

A woman has been arrested after she allegedly placed multiple razors inside bread at two Walmart locations in Mississippi.

The Biloxi Police Department confirmed that Camille Benson was arrested on Tuesday, December 16, and was charged with attempted mayhem. She is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.

Lieutenant Candace Young said the crime spree first began on December 5 when a customer discovered a razor blade in a banana nut muffin. “Store associates combed through their merchandise, couldn’t find any other compromised items, thought, hey, this is just an isolated event,” Young said, according to Fox 10.

Two days later, another Walmart customer found a razor in a loaf of bread. However, police weren’t called until one week later when someone else at the Super Center found razor blades in a loaf of brioche bread.

An investigation is underway in Florida after a woman’s body was found inside a freezer at a Dollar Tree store in Miami on the morning of Sunday, December 14. Miami Police confirmed to Us Weekly that officers arrived at the Dollar Tree located at 968 Southwest 8th Street around 8 a.m. after an employee called […]

“They did another sweep of their merchandise for sale and found multiple loaves of bread that were compromised with razor blades. They also, at that time, found a muffin with a fishhook in it. Somebody had poked those items through the plastic packaging,” Young said.

It is not currently clear how the razors were able to get into the products undetected.

Biloxi Police released surveillance photos of Benson on the morning of Tuesday, December 16. Just hours later, someone reported seeing a person who matched Benson’s description on Division Street. The tip ultimately led to Benson’s arrest and she was taken into custody.

A motive for the crime spree has not yet been revealed. Additionally, it is not immediately clear if Benson has entered a plea or obtained legal representation as of time of publication.

It has also been revealed that Benson is originally from Texas. It’s not clear why she was in Mississippi or how long she had been in the state prior to the beginning of the crime spree.

The Biloxi Police Department did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment regarding the case.

Following the arrest, the Walmart Press Office released a statement addressing the crime spree.

“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority. We have removed and thoroughly inspected all potentially affected products at impacted stores in Biloxi,” the company said. “We appreciate law enforcement for their swift action and will continue cooperating with them as they investigate.”

The statement continued, “Customers who believe they may have purchased a tampered product should dispose of it promptly and visit their local Walmart for a full refund.”

Now that Benson has been taken into custody, police are urging those who have recently shopped at the Walmart locations to be extra aware of the products they bought. “We want to know how many victims could potentially be out there,” Young said.

The crime spree has left many residents in shock. After the case made headlines, one local person told Fox 10, “The fact that you even thought about doing that is insane to me.”

Police are expected to share updates once the case goes to trial. The investigation remains ongoing.
