Nobody has all the time in the world to catch every movie that they want to see.
But if you lived during the age before streaming, people used to work around cable and TV schedules to catch their favorite films.
Thanks to Netflix and other streamers, you can watch anything you want when you want, including some films that slipped under the radar.
Now, Watch With Us is sharing the three must-watch Netflix movies you may have missed in fall 2025. You can catch up at your own pace.
‘Ballad of a Small Player’ (2025)
Colin Farrell plays a gambler, Brendan Reilly, in Ballad of a Small Player, and like any addict, he just doesn’t know when to stop. Brendan has already fled his native United Kingdom and settled in Macau under an alias, Lord Doyle. He’s also racked up enormous debts with the money he stole from his previous employer, and Cynthia Blithe (Tilda Swinton) has come to collect or to send him to prison for theft.
Just as Brendan’s last hope fades away, he befriends Dao-Ming (Fala Chen), a credit broker whose own luck has run out. Regardless of his past experiences, Brendan is convinced that he can turn around his own fortune and Dao-Ming’s as well. It’s a tall order, especially since Brendan’s bad luck seems to follow him no matter where he goes.
Ballad of a Small Player is streaming on Netflix.
‘Steve’ (2025)
Steve is only the second film that Cillian Murphy has appeared in since his Oscar-winning performance in Oppenheimer. Don’t be too shocked if you see Murphy back at the Oscars for his turn in this movie as well. The actor gives a raw and emotional performance as Steve, the head teacher of a school for boys whose antisocial and behavioral problems have left them with no other options.
After putting his heart and soul into helping these boys, Steve feels blindsided by the news that the school will be shut down. As Steve rages at the injustice, one of his students, Shy (Jay Lvcurgo), receives devastating news from his family. Shy may no longer have anywhere to go if the school closes, and his reaction to his plight may have serious consequences for both himself and others.
Steve is streaming on Netflix.
‘The Thursday Murder Club’ (2025)
To close out the list on a lighter note, the original Harry Potter director, Chris Columbus, has a Hogwarts for adults in The Thursday Murder Club. At the luxurious Cooper’s Chase retirement community, former MI6 officer Elizabeth Best (Helen Mirren) has formed the titular club with Ron Ritchie (Pierce Brosnan), Professor Ibrahim Arif (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce Meadowcroft (Celia Imrie) to investigate cold cases that the police have given up on.
Their golden years are threatened when one of the owners of Cooper’s Chase, Tony Curran (Geoff Bell), is murdered, and his partner, Ian Ventham (David Tennant), is determined to close it down. The fate of the entire retirement community may rest upon the Thursday Murder Club’s ability to solve Tony’s murder. And he’s not the only victim that pops up in this case.
