If Emily in Paris gets renewed for season 6, the hit Netflix show will likely be relocating to a new location again — but where is Emily heading next?
The fifth season, which premiered on Thursday, December 18, took Emily (Lily Collins) and her friends from Rome, back to Paris and then to a stop in Venice in the finale. In the last scene, however, viewers checked in with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), who was working on a boat that was about to dock in Greece.
Gabriel wrote a letter to Emily about his feelings for her before inviting her for a visit. This doesn’t seem to be a coincidence, with Emily in Paris likely expanding to different places in a potential new season.
“Assuming we’re picked up, I want to go back to Paris. But I want to go other places too,” director and executive producer Andrew Fleming exclusively told Us Weekly. “It’s teased where we might end up going at the end of season 5 — there’s a possibility we’ll be going there, to Greece.”
Samuel Arnold, who plays Julian, was excited at the prospect of a relocation, telling Us, “I am not going to lie. If they want to shoot in Greece, whatever the reason I say, ‘Let’s go.’ I’ve never been to Greece.”
Emily in Paris centers around Emily Cooper after her move to France from the U.S. for a new job. Emily subsequently ended up caught in a love triangle between Gabriel and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount).
Emily then moved on with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) but by the end of season 4, Gabriel realized that he wanted to fight for her. Emily, however, had made the move to Rome and appeared to start her future with Marcello.
Before season 5 premiered on Thursday, creator Darren Star shut down concerns that Emily in Paris would now be Emily in Rome.
“She didn’t change her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome,” he told Deadline in September 2024. “She is working in Rome sometimes. Sylvie’s company has an office in Rome. Emily’s getting that on its feet. I don’t necessarily think that it means a permanent — in my mind, it’s definitely not a permanent — move to Rome. We’re not leaving Paris.”
French President Emmanuel Macron, however, told Variety in October 2024 that he planned to “fight hard” so Emily in Paris didn’t relocate to Italy for season 5.
For his part, Star teased to TVLine in September 2024 that the move to Italy “expands the universe of the show.”
“Just at the point that Emily has gotten comfortable in Paris, she’s sort of thrown into another country where she’s going to experience some cultural differences,” he said. “And also, I think there’s cultural differences to explore — and we do — between French and Italians. It’s a whole new world, but it doesn’t mean that we’re leaving Paris.”
Emily in Paris is currently streaming on Netflix.
