Saturday Night Live offered a solemn tribute to Rob Reiner less than one week after he and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were brutally killed.
The show shared a throwback photo of Reiner alongside a lower-third of his name at the end of the Saturday, December 20, live broadcast, which was also reposted on the official SNL X account.
“Rob Reiner 🤍 ,” the caption read.
Rob, who served as one of the first hosts of the variety series in October 1975, and Michele were found dead inside his California house on December 14 from apparent stab wounds. They were 78 and 70, respectively.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a statement from the couple’s family read. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
Rob and Michele are survived by children Jake, Romy and Nick. The latter has since been arrested on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parent’s deaths. Nick, 32, has not entered a plea and is scheduled to be arraigned on January 7, 2026.
“This is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family,” Nick’s attorney, Alan Jackson, said in a Wednesday, December 17, statement. “We all recognized that our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family. There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case. Those need to be thoroughly, but very carefully dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed.”
Nick was present for his first court hearing on Wednesday, where he was seen wearing a suicide prevention vest. Nick failed to appear in court one day earlier, with his lawyer stating his client had yet to be “medically cleared” to attend and his future court attendance would be determined on a “day-to-day” basis.
In the wake of Nick’s arrest, his siblings issued a joint statement.
“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience,” Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, wrote earlier this week. “They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
The siblings concluded, “We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
The bodies of Rob, who is also survived by late ex-wife Penny Marshall’s daughter Tracy, and Michele have since been returned to the family after an autopsy. According to a representative for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, the couple died from “multiple sharp force injuries.”
