Taylor Swift Donates $1M to American Heart Association After Dad’s Surgery

Taylor Swift has donated six figures to the American Heart Association after dad Scott Swift’s surgery.

The American Heart Association shared in a press release on Tuesday, December 12, that Taylor’s personal donation of $1 million was made in an effort “to advance ongoing scientific research, stronger prevention and treatment efforts, and expanded access to life‑saving care for every community.”

“Taylor Swift’s remarkable generosity will create lasting change far beyond its financial value,” Nancy Brown, chief executive officer of the American Heart Association, said in the release. “Her family’s experience with cardiovascular disease is all too common, affecting nearly half of American adults.”

The statement continued, “Her commitment to supporting her father will make so many others aware of the need to take their own heart health seriously, strengthen prevention efforts, and improve controllable risk factors—ultimately helping more people live longer, healthier lives.”

Taylor Swift is offering insight into dad Scott Swift’s health after his heart surgery. “He’s doing so great,” Swift, 35, said during an appearance on SiriusXM’s “Morning Mash Up” Monday, October 6. “By his own accord, he’s actually at 150 percent now. So he’s definitely got too much energy. He’s doing amazing. I’m so happy. […]

Brown pointed out that Taylor, 36, has “long been associated with the symbol of heart hands,” a gesture she is known for making during performances.

“At the American Heart Association, we proudly use that same gesture to honor all who have been affected — our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, spouses and so many others. My hope is that together we can raise our collective heart hands and drive meaningful change against this disease, shaping a healthier future for generations to come,” Brown said.

Us Weekly confirmed in July that Scott, 73, was in recovery after undergoing a heart procedure the month before. Taylor and her brother, Austin Swift, as well as her mom, Andrea Swift, were supporting Scott amid his health journey and surgery, which happened after a routine-check up, TMZ reported at the time.

The next month, Taylor opened up about the surgery during an appearance on fiancé Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast.

“My dad had an interesting summer. He actually had a quintuple bypass surgery and that’s a really intense surgery,” she told Travis, 36, and brother Jason Kelce during the August episode.

Taylor noted that things happened “really fast,” explaining that Scott had typically had a “perfect EKG” in his physicals through the years. After undergoing a resting stress test, however, doctors found that Scott had five blockages and he was advised to get the procedure.

“[Doctors said], ‘We gotta do this tomorrow. We don’t know how you walked in here,’” Taylor recalled, noting that the whole family was by Scott’s side. “We moved in with him for the whole summer pretty much. [He couldn’t] really walk on [his] own. We had a harness for my dad, just walking dad on his harness. He was, like, the loveliest patient ever. He kept saying thank you over and over again.”

In October, Taylor shared that Scott is “doing so great.”

“By his own accord, he’s actually at 150 percent now. So he’s definitely got too much energy. He’s doing amazing. I’m so happy,” she said during an appearance on SiriusXM’s “Morning Mash Up” at the time. “To contextualize this, my dad had a quintuple bypass surgery over the summer.”

“The biggest part of our summer was, as a family, just taking care of him and getting him back to his old self,” she continued. “He had amazing medical care and help. The doctors and nurses that I’m going to be forever grateful for. It recontextualizes to you what matters, honestly. It really does. Thank you for mentioning that because it reminds me how lucky I am that he pulled through.”
