Teddi Mellencamp is having some fun with the people making a big deal out of her love life.
Two days after Page Six shared photos of her walking with ex-boyfriend Ricci Rea, Mellencamp, 44, told cohost Tamra Judge on the Thursday, October 9, episode of iHeartRadio’s “Two T’s in a Pod” podcast that she found the situation “so funny.”
“I love that, like, we’re on a walk and people are like, ‘Teddi’s ex-boyfriend: back, days after cancer-related issues,’” she said mockingly.
Judge, 58, made fun of the moment as well, pointing out Mellencamp’s jumpsuit, sneakers and baseball cap.
“Well, no one can say that was a staged picture, because if it was staged, you wouldn’t have been wearing that outfit,” she said.
“I mean, between my outfit and his mustache, it’s a doozy of a sitch,” Mellencamp agreed.
Mellencamp was first spotted with Rea in June before his identity was finally uncovered a month later. But no sooner did Rea’s name become public that Mellencamp announced she had “called it off.”
Rea was Mellencamp’s first public relationship since her split from Edwin Arroyave after 13 years of marriage. The two share kids Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5.
She said in July that she ended things with Rea when she realized the relationship was becoming more consequential.
“Right now, it started getting to the point where it’s starting to get a little bit more serious. I was like, ‘I don’t have the capacity for this right now,’” she explained. “He’s a really nice guy, couldn’t be a nicer guy.”
Though Mellencamp isn’t saying much about their relationship now, she posted a selfie via her Instagram Story with him on Thursday with the caption, “It’s just lunch.”
“It’s such early stages and it’s just nice to have comfort, and you know that he’s such a good guy,” Mellencamp told Judge. “And yeah, I’ve been, I mean, I’ve been dating this whole time. It’s just more that I got a picture from paparazzi where I look like — I mean, I’m wearing a onesie.”
As Mellencamp said, this new development in her love life comes days after she announced major health news on her podcast.
“Just to give a little life update to you guys, I had my immunotherapy yesterday and they did my scans,” she said on the October 3 episode. “And at this point, there is no detectable cancer.”
She added that she will stay on immunotherapy for another year.
“I’m not considered in remission or anything like that,” she explained. “When they told me, I was in such shock. I was, like, numb.”
Mellencamp first revealed her stage II melanoma diagnosis in October 2022. In February, she underwent surgery after the cancer advanced to stage IV and metastasized to her lungs and brain.
“I’m still going to be having days where I’m feeling sick and stuff because I still am in immunotherapy. So, I’m still fighting,” she explained. “The way they said it works, it’s like a year, then two years, then at three years, you’re allowed to be considered in remission.”
