General Hospital delivers Drew Cain Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison) in the hospital after Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) plunged a syringe into his neck, causing a stroke. If he survives, though, he may wind up at Willow’s mercy.
We’re going to talk about Drew becoming a prisoner in his own body as a result of Willow’s latest attack and how vulnerable he will be to revenge.
General Hospital: Willow Tries Again
Willow’s not messing around. It was short minutes after she was found not guilty of shooting Drew that she tried again to unalive him. He was toasting their future when she aggressively injected him. Willow caused him to have a massive stroke.
Pretty sure she was hoping to kill Drew. The drug that I think she used, potassium chloride, is easily accessible at hospitals. It’s not a super secure drug; it’s just really troublesome at high doses. It can mimic a stroke. It can cause cardiac arrest and brain damage, and high doses can lead to aphasia and locked-in syndrome.
Willow Tait’s Dangerous Medical Deception on General Hospital
From the moment Willow called 911, she’s been playing the devoted wife who’s worried sick about her husband. When she got up to General Hospital, she explained that Drew collapsed and is acting so concerned. But Kai Taylor (Jens Austin Astrup) is right there, and he knows better because he knows she already tried to kill him once.
Then Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) mentioned that Drew could survive and might be a vegetable, or he could have locked-in syndrome. My ears perked up because that’s what Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) was diagnosed with in 2021 after he was stabbed in prison and then had surgery and then was comatose for a while. He recovered and then was faking it.
I don’t even know if he had locked-in at any point or was faking it the whole time, but we found out in 2022 that Ryan had been faking it. That was when Esme Prince (Avery Pohl) was also at Shady Brook and found out Ryan was her dad and that he really could talk.
Drew Cain Quartermaine as a Prisoner in His Own Body: A Twisted Caretaker Plot on GH
We know that our soaps love to repeat plots. If they have Drew with locked-in syndrome, that could be really interesting because he’d be a prisoner in his own body. Willow would be the one likely taking care of him, which is kind of scary because she caused the stroke.
With locked-in syndrome or aphasia or both, Drew can’t tell anybody that Willow did this. If he survived and is conscious but is locked in, Willow would probably have to care for him at home because dumping him in a facility would look really suspicious. Willow is a nurse, so everybody knows she has the skill set to take care of Drew after his stroke.
Right now, Willow is pretending to be sad and scared about Drew’s collapse. Willow’s playing the role of terrified wife like it’s her job and she’s getting a paycheck for it. She even made sure to carefully ditch the syringe she used on Drew in one of those needle disposable boxes at General Hospital so it couldn’t be tied back to her.
The real problem comes if Drew survives because I do think Willow fully intended to kill him. But she had to call 911 so she would look innocent. And then the doctors turn around and save Despicable Drewfus’ life. Now Willow may end up in a really twisted situation where Drew is basically her prisoner in their home and can’t stop her.
Dark Willow Goes Full Nurse Ratched: The Torment of Drew Cain
She could go full Nurse Ratched on him. Remember the crazy nurse from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest? I am sure that Willow would absolutely hate having to take care of Drew because, as I said, I think Willow fully intended to kill Drew. But she wants her kids back, and of course, she doesn’t want to go to jail for another attack on him.
The good news for Willow is she may look sympathetic to a custody judge since she was found not guilty and is now caretaking Drew. It looks like it’s out of love and concern. But I also think Willow will look for some payback for Drew controlling and manipulating her for so long. Just think of all the stunts he pulled…
Like paying off the lady at the clinic in Germany to say Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) didn’t want to see Willow. Drew purposefully set it up so Wiley Quartermaine Corinthos (Viron Weaver) would hear him saying that Michael didn’t want him or Amelia Grace Corinthos (Sequoia and Serenity Mork Macko) anymore because he had baby Daisy.
And of course, there was Drew seducing Willow and trashing her marriage to Michael. Willow definitely wants some revenge, and killing him hasn’t worked out now twice. What Drew pulled with Wiley in particular was really, really low, and her little boy was so upset.

Why Willow Tait Wants Dark Vengeance on General Hospital
Also, never forget Drew slept with Willow’s mom, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), while Willow was falling for him and he didn’t tell her. That all came out at their wedding—the one that didn’t take place. There’s just so much general awfulness about Drew.
I could definitely see Willow being appalled at first to be stuck caretaking Drew, but then she realizes, “Oh, I can make Drew suffer. I can get some vengeance. Death would have been too quick. I can do something much worse.” Since Willow has gone super dark these days, I do think she would torment Drew if she was stuck taking care of him.
That would be such karma because as obsessed as he is with Willow, if Drew has locked-in syndrome and can’t move or speak, he could still hear and fully understand her. I think Willow would tell Drew what she really thinks of him and what she’s done.
Willow’s Dark Opportunity to Torture Drew
I could see Willow confessing that she shot him and just tried to kill him again. Drew wouldn’t be able to do anything. He couldn’t tell anybody. He couldn’t even react. He’d have to sit there and just suffer knowing that Willow hates him enough to try and kill him not once, but twice.
She can torture Drew and make him miserable in his own home, and not just with words. Willow could pinch him, poke him, stick him with needles, or shock him. She could go full Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier). She could drug Drew and knock him out anytime she wants. Willow could even try and kill Drew again while he’s helpless and under her control.
Long term, Willow could ship Drew off to a care facility. After having him at home for a while, Willow could say that she really can’t give Drew the scope of care he needs. Or, Willow could hire caretakers and bring in a nurse with a dodgy reputation—one of those angel of mercy types. That way, Willow would have a scapegoat if she drugged Drew and killed him.
Alexis Davis Confronts Willow Over Drew’s Stroke and Scout’s Future
We know this week Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) confronts Willow and says, “It’s best if Scout Cain (Cosette Abinante) comes to live with me.” Alexis is going to tell Willow, “I know you shot Drew, and I suspect you also did this to him.” If Alexis says, “Look, give me Scout, and I’ll keep it zipped. I will keep both your dirty secrets,” I bet that Willow will agree.
She cares about Scout, but in the end, Willow’s main focus is getting back her own kids. Plus, if Scout’s with Alexis, that’ll give Willow a lot more opportunities to mess with Drew when he can’t defend himself. That is karma for real because he wanted Willow all to himself and now he’s got it and may regret it.
You know that saying: be careful what you wish for. In the end, if they do give him locked-in syndrome, I think they will fully repeat the Ryan plot. It may turn out that at some point he recovers his ability to move and to speak.
Then, he can take his own vengeance on Willow when the opportunity presents itself. I think this is going to twist around a couple of different ways. I’m excited to see what happens. We are into February sweeps starting next week, and I think that’s when things are really going to pick up in an interesting way for Willow and Drew.
