Brooks Laich is a dad!
The former NHL player, 42, and his fiancee, Katrin Tanja Davíðsdóttir, announced via Instagram on Wednesday, October 15, that they welcomed their first child, daughter Emberly Heba Laich, on October 6.
“Our hearts are overflowing with love as we welcome our daughter into this world,” the couple stated in a joint post. “Becoming her parents has been the greatest gift we ever could have imagined — our precious, peaceful, powerful little girl who was born under the full supermoon!”
They added, “Our world is forever brighter with you in it, our Emberly ❤️.”

Along with their announcement, Laich and Davíðsdóttir shared a series of black-and-white photos of the moments after Emberly’s birth. In one snapshot, Davíðsdóttir, 32, cries as the baby is placed on her chest and Laich looks on, smiling. In another photo, Laich kisses the new mother on her forehead. Other shots show sweet Emberley lying in her hospital crib.
The couple’s friends and fans flooded the comments section with congratulations.
“She is perfection and you are incredible, momma!! 🩷🩷 I cannot wait to meet her!” remarked Haley Erbert Hough, the wife of Derek Hough, whose sister Julianne was married to Laich from 2017 until their separation in 2020. (The exes’ divorce was finalized in 2022. Laich began dating Davíðsdóttir, an Icelandic athlete, in 2021).
“Oh I’m so happy for you!!! 💗,” Michelle Monaghan wrote, while Wells Adams piled on the emojis, typing, “😍😍😍😍😍😍👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🙌🙌❤️❤️.”

In May, Laich and Davíðsdóttir announced that she was pregnant.
“Our greatest blessing 🤍🫶🏼✨ Baby Laich coming this fall. Mom & Dad can’t wait to meet you, our little one!!!!!!” they wrote via a joint Instagram post, which featured the duo holding sonogram images in coordinating outfits.
Julianne, 37, was among the first to celebrate the news.
“Congratulations you two on expanding your family – this baby is already so loved ✨,” the Dancing With the Stars host wrote at the time.

Laich has remained close to the Hough family after splitting from Julianne. He was one of the six groomsmen in Derek’s 2023 wedding to Erbert, 31, while Julianne was a bridesmaid.
In September 2024, Julianne opened up about seeing her ex and Davíðsdóttir at a wedding.
“I’m in this place where I now feel like I’m just beginning with so much wisdom, with so much insight, with so much compassion and so much empathy and understanding of like, what’s possible,” she said on “The Jamie Kern Lima Show” podcast. “Having the extreme of like, ‘Will this ever end?’ to ‘Oh my gosh, like, I get to, like, literally, design and create the life of my dreams,’ and know that every decision I’m going to make is going to be from here.”
