Three-time World Series champion Darryl Strawberry told fans that his wife, Tracy, is ready to come home from the hospital after multiple surgeries and “setbacks” in her battle with cancer.
“This really has been some very challenging times for us, but we wanted to thank God for his Grace and Mercy!” Strawberry, 63, wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, October 22, alongside a photo of himself by his wife’s side in the hospital. “My Heart Has Been Heavy Lately 🥲 And Needing To Say Thanks For Being There For My Wife; ❤️”
He continued, “Thank you to all the Doctors and Nurses for your incredible care and dedication in helping my wife through back-to-back surgeries and major health challenges. Your compassion has meant the world to our family during this difficult time, and you hold a special place in our hearts.”
Darryl and Tracy met in 2006 at a drug recovery convention. The former New York Yankees and Mets outfielder publicly battled drug abuse during his playing career. His time in MLB was disrupted by a 60-day suspension after testing positive for cocaine in 1994 and a 1999 arrest for cocaine possession.
Both Darryl and Tracy have been sober for more than a decade, crediting their faith in helping guide them through the most difficult times of their lives.

The eight-time All-Star first disclosed in July that Tracy had been diagnosed with “early stage cancer” that would require “major surgeries.”
“Your unwavering spirit inspires us all.” Darryl wrote via Instagram at the time. “Despite your own struggles, you keep getting up for work and continue to put our family and other people’s needs first, embodying the selflessness that defines you.”
He followed up on October 8, just days after one of her surgeries, which he reported included a “setback.” In the photo, he was smiling alongside Tracy, who was resting in her hospital bed.
“This afternoon brought a setback for my wife after so many wonderful good moments following her surgery on Monday,” he wrote in the caption. “But I sat by her bedside, laid my hands on her, and prayed in the Spirit, trusting God to bring peace and healing. She fell asleep peacefully and woke up feeling much better.”
Darryl thanked the church again on Wednesday, along with all the fans who have offered their support during Tracy’s battle.
“A big thank you to our Church @journeychurch.family Pastor Jesse and team, for being the hands and feet of Christ when we needed it most,” Darryl continued in his post on Wednesday. “And to our best friends, Joanne & Ralph @thesourcechurchbradenton your friendship and support in painful moments have been a true blessing. We are deeply grateful to the Lord for bringing you into our lives. ❤️”
“We are truly grateful to each and every one of you who has taken the time to pray for us during this difficult moment,” he added. “Your support and prayers mean the world to our family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
Darryl ended his note with the news he had undoubtedly been waiting to share.
“She’s Coming Home Tomorrow Morning! 😍✝️,” he wrote. “We Love You All. Darryl and Tracy 🍓”
