Scott Hoying is still booked and busy despite leaving the Dancing With the Stars ballroom.
Hoying, 34, opened up about what’s next for him after he was eliminated from the competition with pro partner Rylee Arnold during the Wicked Night episode on Tuesday, October 21. “Pentatonix is going on tour in two weeks,” he told Extra. “I was going to do both at the same time, which I had been stressing about and losing sleep over.”
The musician said that the “silver lining” of his elimination is that he can fully focus on touring with his a cappella group. “But I won’t be with Rylee,” he added, joking that he might need to be escorted out of the ballroom for his exit to really sink in.
Following Tuesday’s results, speculation swirled online that the fans’ votes and judges’ scores weren’t the only reason Hoying and Arnold, 20, were sent home as social media users connected the dots about the upcoming Pentatonix tour. Other fans pointed out, however, that none of the tour dates were on Tuesdays, so Hoying’s plan to do both might have worked out.

Hoying and Arnold later sat down for an emotional interview on the “Official Dancing With the Stars Podcast,” breaking down what went wrong in their Wicked Night routine. The duo earned 28 out of 40 points for their contemporary dance to “The Wizard and I,” but Hoying admitted to getting “really flustered” mid-performance.
“I just like, blacked out and didn’t kill it,” Hoying said on Thursday, October 23. “And I feel bad. I feel bad for Rylee because she worked so hard, but I’m proud of what we did.”

Hoying explained that there was “a weird freak accident” that made him forget some choreography.
“I’d done it a million times, drilled it, and then I just blanked,” he said. “I missed a move and then I could not recover. So I was kind of moving my body and watching Rylee and trying to get back on.”
While they were dancing, Hoying realized the performance was “not going amazingly,” but he pushed through with a smile on his face. “We locked in and the end was good,” he said. “I’m glad it ended well.”
Hoying said he had “no thoughts” in his brain but then became “suddenly very aware” that he was dancing on live TV. “Hopefully it didn’t read too badly,” he quipped.

The mirrorball trophy might be out of reach for Hoying and Arnold, but they’re walking away from the experience with a close friendship and plenty of lessons. Though he’s no stranger to performing, Hoying admitted there’s a big difference between singing and dancing for an audience.
“That is the biggest realization I made on the show,” Hoying told podcast host Joey Graziadei. “I’ve had people tell me, like, ‘You don’t even seem like yourself. Like, you’re so nervous.’ … I don’t know, it’s so different.”
Hoying said it was “a beautiful thing” to be challenged in a new way. “It was, like, bringing up insecurities of my childhood. Like, I was shyer than normal,” he continued. “Like, if you come to a Pentatonix concert, I’m just on the fly, winging it, like, not nervous walking around an arena. But this was so different. It felt vulnerable in a way that I have not been in years. And I think that’s what was so great about it. It threw me so far out of my comfort zone … and I just feel stronger because of it.”
