Married at First Sight fans are experiencing a first while watching season 19.
During episode nine, which was released via Peacock on Thursday, November 6, Meghann announced she is pregnant and expecting her first baby with Derrek weeks after getting married.
“We found out some pretty crazy news today. Some miraculous news, unexpected news,” Derrek shared with the cameras. “I think we’re both nervous.”
Meghann added, “We’re pregnant! And we were not trying — to make that completely known.”
Although the Married at First Sight franchise has resulted in successful marriages and couples who have gone on to have children, this is the first match to get pregnant during the show’s initial eight-week experiment.
“We’ve got a lot, a lot to talk about now,” Derrek said. “This changes pretty much everything for us.”
Meghann continued, “We’re shocked, scared and happy all at once.”
On October 23, Married at First Sight season 19 kicked off with experts Pastor Cal Roberson, Dr. Pepper Schwartz and Dr. Pia Holec matching 10 singles in Austin, Texas. The brave individuals all agreed to marry a complete stranger at the wedding altar before heading off on romantic honeymoons to learn more about each other.
Once they returned home, each couple would move in together as husband and wife, with cameras following them for eight weeks.
In episode 10, all the couples headed off for a couples retreat. Derrek and Meghann, however, agreed that they wouldn’t be sharing their pregnancy news with everyone just yet.
“It’s still really early in the whole pregnancy. It’s too early yet to have the first doctor’s appointment where they do the ultrasound. We haven’t gotten to that point yet,” Derrek explained. “But that’s going to be in a few weeks, so we’re a little nervous to spend this close of, like, intimate time together around the other couples because we’re not ready to tell anyone.”
In a preview for upcoming episodes, the couple appear to experience some speed bumps in their first weeks of marriage.
While Derrek believes the pregnancy is “more reason” to stay together, Meghann isn’t so sure.
As she explained, “Just because we’re pregnant doesn’t mean we have to be together.”
According to Peacock, Derrek is an entrepreneur in health and wellness who is ambitious and passionate about longevity and balance. As for Meghann, she is a realtor who struggled with work-life balance before joining Married at First Sight.
Before marrying Derrek, Meghann was asked about kids. She told a family member that she wanted to have one boy and that “motherhood would be surreal.”

As viewers watch what happens next, Derrek made it clear that he will support his wife in every step of the process.
“This is gonna make me grind and work hard and do what I can to support you,” he said, “and I’m committing to doing whatever I can to make you comfortable and happy and feeling good during this whole process.”
