Beyond the Gates may have a little twist coming soon related to little Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings), or whatever that con woman’s real name is, who’s cooking up a plot to kill her husband. I just wonder if pregnant Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit) may accidentally bust her stepmom’s murder plot wide open.
I want to talk about how Hayley might get outed for plotting murder with her cousin Randy Parker (Maurice P. Kerry)
Beyond the Gates: Hayley the Con Artist
All right, let’s talk about it. I have said many times here, and I know some of you in the comments tend to agree, that I thought Hayley was running a very long con. I said a while back that I thought she wormed her way into Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) and Bill Hamilton’s (Timon Kyle Durrett) family with the intent of breaking them up and causing problems.
However, I had wondered if Hayley infiltrated the family to rip it apart for some kind of vendetta against Bill, because we know he’s got no morals and no scruples. I was wondering if he did something bad to someone in Hayley’s family, but no, nothing so interesting after she had that conversation with Randy. Hayley’s just in it for the Benjamins.
Unraveling Haley’s Long Con: A Plot for Profit, Not Revenge
She and Randy have been running cons. Hayley has been the primary person, but Randy’s been assisting her. I will say this seems like a big hassle in this case with Bill. It took Hayley way over a year to get in there, get close to the family, bang Bill, get him to leave Dani, and finally marry her. That’s a whole lot of effort over a long period, and he only incidentally decided to take out the $10 million life insurance. This is not a well-thought-out con, and it’s taken way too long. Hayley probably could have run three or four other cons in that same time period.
Even Randy commented to Hayley that this one was taking quite a long time—the whole Bill mess. Not only that, but how do you run cons like this repeatedly in your own backyard? She had driver’s licenses and passports, but then she’s sitting where she’s from, apparently. Hayley was talking about the other identities and all that. Meanwhile, Randy’s her cousin. Just to remind you, he was good friends with the recently dead Doug McBride (Jason Graham) and had been since they were school kids, at least back to high school. But if I recall the dialogue, even earlier than high school.
Questioning the Conspiracy: Plot Holes in Haley and Randy’s Scheme
With him and Randy being so close, are we to assume that Doug never met his cousin Hayley or whatever her name is? Since Doug grew up around the DMV, that means Randy did too. And presumably, Hayley did as well. I feel like this is a big, gaping plot flaw unless they lay it out for us and explain it. Like maybe Randy and Hayley are distant cousins and she didn’t grow up in the DMV, and maybe Randy told Hayley, “Hey, come up here. There’s a lot of rich fools and you can do your thing up here.”
At any rate, this week, Randy and Hayley have a couple of complications in their big “kill Bill for the life insurance” plan. First of all, Randy and Hayley are chatting and scheming at Uptown, and Vanessa McBride (Lauren Buglioli) and Dani walk in and see them together. Of course, Vanessa knows his real name, Randy Parker, because he’s a friend of hers and dead Doug’s.
But Dani remembers him as the guy who took Hayley to the hospital when she had that supposed, but now we know faked, miscarriage at Uptown back in early August. So Dani says his name is Sammy, and Vanessa’s really confused and she’s like, “No, that’s Randy, Doug’s friend.” It looks like Vanessa may mention this encounter to her bed buddy criminal Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) because then he turns around and is grilling Randy, asking what he’s doing with Bill Hamilton’s little wifey.
The Poisoned Cupcake: How a Pregnancy Test Could Expose a Murder Plot
But also, there’s a hospital hitch tied to Naomi that could come into this scheme to really blow things out of the water. If you remember, Hayley had Randy get her some kind of drug, a toxin, a poison to kill Bill. She put it in a cupcake and then told him it was gluten-free, sugar-free, etc., to basically explain why it tasted like crap. But Bill swapped it and he ate a yummy, full-fat cupcake. Naomi took a big bite of the poisoned one before Hayley freaked out and kind of snatched it away, slapped it away.
Right after that, abruptly, Naomi headed over to the hospital and told Ashley Morgan (Jen Jacob) she suspects she’s pregnant and she did a home pregnancy test. Ashley said, “Oh, those are really accurate.” It kind of doesn’t make sense for Naomi to go over there and get a blood pregnancy test at the hospital because she’s not planning on getting prenatal care. She is looking to terminate her pregnancy. It just doesn’t kind of jive with where the plot is. That’s why I suspect this test is going to tie back to the Hayley plot to kill Bill and cash that big insurance check.
From Blood Test to Betrayal: Will Lab Results Reveal the Toxin?
Ashley told Naomi that the pregnancy test wouldn’t come fast because it’s routine and Ashley can’t put a rush on it since it’s not urgent. We are two weeks away from the beginning of November sweeps, which kicks off October 30th. So those test results may come back in November sweeps in a big way. Again, Ashley said she can’t put a rush on it. It’s not urgent. So she went ahead and took Naomi to get the test, and I wonder if something turns up that raises an alert.
Usually, a blood pregnancy test is a positive or a negative, but they may be writing this where they test for more than just the pregnancy hormone, find an anomaly, and do a follow-up test. Usually, they have more blood than they need to do a test. That way, if something happens, they can rerun it with the same sample.
The lab could find Hayley’s toxin from the cupcake in her bloodstream. That doesn’t mean Naomi will immediately think, “Oh, it must be from that cupcake.” The other question is whether whatever Hayley put in the cupcake could cause Naomi to have a miscarriage. Could the miscarriage faker actually cause a real miscarriage? That would be wild.

Analyzing the Narrative: Is the Blood Test the Ultimate Plot Device on Beyond the Gates?
Naomi and Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges) are arguing this week, and Naomi is making it clear again that she really doesn’t want the baby and reminds Jacob he knew she never wanted children and he said he was cool with it. Fresh off killing Doug, I don’t think the writers are really going to kill Bill. Plus, with Hayley now plotting murder, it seems like her time should be up. Then again, she might get away with it because Dana “Leslie” Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) hasn’t ever paid for trying to kill Laura on Beyond the Gates. So, we’ll see how it goes.
It seems strange to me storyline-wise to have it written of Naomi jumping up and deciding she needs a blood pregnancy test right after eating some of that tainted cupcake. Again, why get another test when she pretty much told Jacob and Dani she’s probably not going to carry on with the pregnancy? If Naomi is going to terminate, then they will check it out at the abortion clinic before they do the procedure. She doesn’t need to go to the hospital and get any kind of prenatal testing or care before she has a termination. That’s not generally how things work.
So, we’ll see. But depending on what the drug is that Randy got and Hayley used in the cupcake, Naomi could lose that baby before she decides once and for all to end the pregnancy. However, no matter how it works out, miscarriage or not, I do think this blood test that Ashley ran on Naomi could come back around to bite Hayley in her perky little butt.
