Days of Our Lives has Rachel Black (Alice Halsey) committed to Bayview. And she hates it. She’s upset she can’t see her grandma and that her mom isn’t there with her. And Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) and Tate Black (Leo Howard) just found out Rachel’s only friend in Bayview is nutty Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd).
Given all the frustrations, Rachel might be ready to run because she feels like her family has bailed on her. Even though they’re visiting, she’s still stuck there. Nobody’s getting her out, and Sophia might feed into that. We’re going to talk about little Rachel taking off with Sophia.
Days of our Lives: Rachel & Sophia’s Friendship Spells Trouble
Let’s be real, Christmas at Bayview sounds less holly and jolly and more depressing and deranged. And now that Rachel is friends with Sophia, that’s not a good sign. We could see Rachel spiraling and doing something sinister.
Rachel’s Dark Past: From Poisoned Ice Cream to Shooting Her Uncle on DOOL
Brady, of course, was heartbroken when we saw him drop Rachel off at Bayview several weeks ago. That came after she poisoned Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) with pistachio ice cream, knowing she was deathly allergic. That was bad enough. But then Rachel remembered shooting her uncle EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel), and that was worse.
Rachel did try to stop Sarah from eating the tainted sundae at the last minute, but she was too late and nearly killed her former kidnapper and now her favorite doctor. So Brady was floored that his precious little girl could do such a thing. But really, should he be that surprised?
When Rachel said her mom Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) didn’t shoot EJ and it was Rachel herself who pulled the trigger, well, Brady knew something had to give. Her therapist thought it was best that Rachel spend time in inpatient treatment at Bayview, and now it’s looking long-term.
A Dangerous Alliance: Rachel and Sophia’s Mischief at Bayiew
Already the kid’s getting into mischief in the mental ward. She is hanging out with and lying for Sophia. Rachel knows Sophia is faking her catatonia as part of her mind games. She told Rachel that she was really speechless at first, but it didn’t last long. Then Sophia swore Rachel to secrecy about her being able to speak. And so far, she’s sticking with it. She’s lying and she’s covering for Sophia.
Rachel helped fool the night nurse by posing as a sleeping Sophia for bed check so she could sneak out and buy them junk food. Rachel didn’t seem too bothered that Sophia stole money from a nurse to buy their burgers and shakes. But Rachel and Sophia sneaking food in might be just the start of something much bigger and more devious that’s ahead for these girls.
We saw that Rachel was visibly upset by Brady and Tate talking about decorating her room with lights and things for the upcoming holiday. That devastated Rachel, who assumed she would be home for Christmas. And then when Brady and Tate left her room, Rachel was telling her stuffed snake that they would be leaving Bayview soon. That doesn’t sound good.
Escape from Bayview: A Brewing Plot for Revenge and Reunion on Days of Our Lives
Meanwhile, I do think Sophia wants to break out so she can snatch her biological son Trey away from his adoptive parents, Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) and Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens). Even though Rachel told Sophia that Chanel and Johnny are good people and are good parents to Little T, his birth mom certainly does not want her baby with them on Days of our Lives.
Sophia still blames Johnny because he bailed on the initial adoption, and that led Sophia down that road where she did a lot of lying and took a lot of drastic actions. With Rachel and Sophia getting closer and already teaming up on lesser crimes, I feel like Rachel’s almost being groomed by the older teen to be Sophia’s full-blown partner in crime.
I could see Rachel and Sophia cooking up an escape plan soon. While Brady thinks his daughter is making progress, it seems like Rachel is making plans to break out of the psych hospital. I’m quite certain Sophia is eager to break out, but she was all alone in there before and didn’t really have anybody to inspire her. For some wild reason, Rachel trusts Sophia even though she screwed her brother Tate over so badly.
But it kind of makes sense because Rachel and Sophia have commonalities in their wicked behaviors that landed them both in the mental ward to begin with. Plus, Rachel’s all alone in there and she would have nobody if not for Sophia and vice versa. So, together, they each feel less alone and they feel more understood. It makes sense that any plan to break out of Bayview would involve Rachel and Sophia leaving together.
Behind the Scenes: Actress Alice Halsey’s Exit and Its Impact on Rachel’s Days Storyline
If those two escape soon, I suspect that one or both of them might wind up getting caught. But Rachel and Sophia would probably wreak some havoc before they’re found. Then again, those two could run off and not be seen again for quite some time. Here’s why. Alice Halsey, who plays Rachel, is supposed to be leaving. We don’t have her final air date, but she landed the lead role on the reboot of Little House on the Prairie, and she had to walk away from Days to go film.
The first season of the Little House reboot taped from June to October of this year. So that means Alice Halsey is going to exit and could be gone a while, depending on where they were in this shooting, which runs anywhere from like six to nine months ahead. I know they’re nine months ahead now. I don’t think they were that far ahead this summer, but take June and add six to eight months and that would be the latest possible date that Alice should have as Rachel. Of course, they might recast, but we haven’t heard that yet either.

Family Feuds and Escape Fuel on Days of Our Lives: Will Marlena’s Visit Push Rachel Over the Edge?
Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) is hoping to visit Rachel at Bayview now that she’s out after her pacemaker surgery. Marlena’s worried Brady won’t like it and won’t let her see the kid, but Belle Black (Martha Madison) thinks that Brady might be okay with it because Rachel really wants to see her. However, I can see Brady throwing an absolute baby fit over Marlena wanting to visit Rachel.
Obviously, because Brady blames Marlena for Rachel ending up in Bayview because Marlena kept the shooting secret from him. But Kristen was the one who asked her to. And Marlena and Kristen were hoping Rachel would remember shooting EJ when she was mentally ready. Marlena didn’t count on being stuck in the hospital. When Rachel’s memories came back, she thought she would be there to help her through it.
If Brady doesn’t let Marlena come visit Rachel, that may fuel the fire of her wanting to get out of Bayview because she feels cut off from people she loves. Of course, Sophia will probably be pressing Rachel to make a plan and run off with her. I could see Sophia taking advantage of the family drama in Rachel’s life to get what she wants. A partner in crime, not just inside Bayview, but out in Salem, out in the real world.
What’s Next for Rachel Black on DOOL: Recast, Runaway, or Teenage Terror?
Sophia may try and kidnap her kid, but that might be hard if the DiMeras are still on high alert. And Rachel, she’s already an independent kid. She had no problem at any time hopping in an Uber and heading to Statesville prison to see her mom. I could see Brady being horrified if Rachel goes missing from Bayview. And of course, Kristen would lose it.
With Alice Halsey’s exit expected within the next, you know, anywhere from a week to a month from now, give or take, the big question is whether Rachel will wind up left in Bayview and rarely seen or if she runs off and stays gone until they recast the role. They might even do a SORAS (Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome), bringing her back as a teenager. So, we’ll see how it goes. But keep an eye out because Sophia and Rachel may break out of there soon.
