Denise Richards’ Mother-in-Law Says Actress Threw Can Opener at Aaron

Aaron Phypers’ mom, Patricia Phypers, testified she witnessed Denise Richards attack her son during their marriage, Us Weekly can report.

On Friday, October 17, Aaron called his mom to the stand as he fights Richards’ effort to obtain a permanent restraining order against him.

During questioning, Patricia said that she saw Richards, 54, attack Aaron, 53, about two years ago. “It was at the Calabasas home. She threw a can opener,” Patricia alleged.

Patricia denied ever seeing Aaron abuse Richards or threaten her in any way.

On the stand, Patricia also spoke out about the incident on August 3 involving Richards. As Us previously reported, the police were called after Richards showed up to the home she used to share with Aaron.

Richards moved out of the home in 2023 and into her own home, but claims to have continued to pay the bills for the former home. At the moment, Aaron, his brother and parents live in the home.

The RHOBH alum showed up at the home to get certain property but Aaron called the police due to Richards’ temporary restraining order in place prohibiting any contact between them.

In court, Patricia said Aaron left the home “quickly” after learning Richards arrived.

“He wasn’t there. He left. He was afraid of being charged because of the [temporary restraining order],” Patricia said.

Aaron’s mom said she did not see him leave because Richards was “threatening and pounding on the door.”

Later, Patricia was asked how she would describe Aaron’s behavior during the marriage.

“He loved her deeply,” she said. During cross-examination, Richards’ team brought up text messages exchanged between Richards and her estranged mother-in-law.

One alleged text, dated January 1, 2023, read, “I don’t condone his behavior as you know but he’s been there for Lola in the past when she needed him.” Patricia admitted she wrote it but said she did not remember the context.

“I don’t know who we were talking about. I can’t testify to something when I don’t have the complete details,” she added.

Another alleged text between her and Richards read, “I don’t know if he does. We don’t rehash it. He does know that he was out of control.”

“I have no idea. It could have been anything. It could have been about a dog peeing all over the house. I don’t know,” Patricia said

“I have no idea. It’s out of context,” she added. “I’m supposed to know everything before I say anything, so I don’t know.”

As Us previously reported, the trial started on October 6 and has lasted for several days. Aaron has yet to call all of his witnesses.

During her testimony, Richards claimed Aaron was abusive to her on multiple occasions. She described one incident in May where she claimed he “smashed me on the top of my head with the palm of his head” while she was recovering from surgery in a hotel room.

Aaron’s cousin, Kathleen McAllister, who worked with him, claimed she saw him assault Richards in January 2022.

For his part, Aaron denied that his cousin saw him hit Richards and claimed the actress fell into a pole on the day in question. He told the court he never touched Richards and never threatened to hurt her.

Aaron previously told Us, “These accusations are completely false and deeply hurtful. Denise and I, like many couples, have faced our share of challenges, but any suggestion of abuse is categorically untrue.”
