Erika Jayne has no qualms about how Real Housewives of Beverly Hills costar Kyle Richards is discussing her love life on the show.
“I know what Kyle’s been through,” Erika, 54, told Us Weekly exclusively while promoting the Bravo show’s 15th season. “So watching her take this step and being able to say what was on her heart, I think was very brave of her.”
During the RHOBH episode that aired on December 11, Kyle revealed in a heartfelt conversation with Erika that she “fell hard” for someone and was in a relationship following her 2023 separation from Mauricio Umansky.
“It was very painful for Kyle. You can see the look on my face,” Erika said, trailing off. “There’s so much.”
Kyle has been criticized by other RHOBH cast members for not sharing enough about her personal life. Erika defended her friend while reflecting on her own public divorce battle from estranged husband Tom Girardi. (Erika filed for divorce from Tom in 2020 after 21 years of marriage.)
“If I could be selfish for a second. People really expected me to speak more about what I was going through knowing that, legally, I couldn’t. But that didn’t matter,” she explained. “The thing is — and Kyle said this — if it were just up to her, she’s more than happy to say. There are other people involved here. They’re not on this show, and I think sometimes the viewers forget that.”

She added, “We signed up for this, but they didn’t. You see a part of our lives. We have lives that include other people, and that doesn’t necessarily mean including them on the show.”
Kyle explained during the episode earlier this month that she was “so tired” of people asking about her dating life. She told Erika about her past relationship, revealing that her former partner wasn’t willing to “share” their romance publicly.
“All the speculation and the gossip and the talking is what ultimately ended it,” Kyle said in the December 11 episode. “I could have weathered the storm but this is not for everyone.”
Kyle went on to ask for Erika’s advice.
“Erika, if you were seeing someone that you cared very much about, that specifically says, ‘Please, I’m not a part of this group. Be respectful.’ Would you betray that person?” Kyle wondered. “Just because people are curious.”
Kyle noted that “if this person weren’t so afraid of the public scrutiny,” things might have been different.
Erika agreed with Kyle, saying that she would “protect” her significant other’s wishes. (Kyle was romantically linked to country singer Morgan Wade following her separation from Mauricio, but the two have maintained that they were nothing more than friends.)
“I’ve always told everybody just to be honest and I’m always an honest person,” Kyle continued. “I’m not a liar, but I don’t know what people want from me. I am single now, OK.”
She added, “I was seeing someone who I cared about very much. … If it was only me, I would give all the answers they want. But it’s not just about me.”
