Meghan Trainor’s sons, Riley and Barry, are already proving to be the best big brothers to their new little sister.
“They are over the moon. Riley takes his ‘big brother’ role very seriously, and Barry is just so gentle and curious with her,” Trainor, 32, told People on Tuesday, January 20, after announcing the arrival of daughter Mikey Moon via surrogate. “Watching them bond with their sister has been one of the sweetest parts of this whole experience.”
Trainor sweetly revealed that she and husband Daryl Sabara “printed out photos for Riley to bring to school and show his entire class” after his sister was born. (Trainor also shared with the outlet that Riley, 4, and Barry, 2, were responsible for choosing Mikey’s middle name.)
“He couldn’t have been more excited,” the mom of three gushed over her eldest son embracing the family’s new addition.

Mikey arrived on January 18, the couple announced in a joint Instagram post featuring Trainor tearfully cradling the baby against her bare chest.
“Our baby girl Mikey Moon Trainor has finally made it to the world thanks to our incredible, superwoman surrogate,” the caption said. “We are forever grateful to all the doctors, nurses, teams who made this dream possible. We had endless conversations with our doctors in this journey and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family. We are over the moon in love with this precious girl. Riley and Barry have been so excited, they even got to choose her middle name. We are going to enjoy our family time now, love you all🩷🥹🎀.”
Trainor and Sabara, 33, received an outpouring of love and support from their celebrity friends and fans alike underneath the post.
“My girl xoxoxo,” Hoda Kotb commented, while another person said, “Oh my heart. 😍 Congratulations Meghan. She is so beautiful and perfect. So happy for you and your growing family. Sending love from NJ!❤️ Welcome to the world Mikey Moon!❤️.”
“MEGHAN!!!im so proud of you!!!you finally got your babygirl!💖🥹🥹congratulations beautiful,” a third person wrote.
Also featured in the post were photos of Riley and Barry meeting their baby sister and other glimpses of baby Mikey swaddled in a blanket in her mom’s arms.
Following Mikey’s arrival, Trainor explained to People why she and Sabara decided to use a surrogate.
“It wasn’t our first choice, but we had endless conversations with our doctors on this journey, and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family,” the “All About That Bass” singer explained. “We are forever grateful for that option.”
Trainor said that “surrogacy is just another beautiful way to build a family” and acknowledged, “Every family’s journey looks different, and all of them are extremely valid.”
Years before becoming a family of five, Trainor opened up about her desire to have more children. “I’m ready for three more kids!” she told People in September 2021 after Riley’s birth.
“I’m happiest nowadays when I’m putting my baby to sleep with my husband because we do it together every night. We look at each other like, ‘We made the best baby,’” she told the outlet at the time of the joys of parenthood. “We got so blessed.”
