Rob Reiner and Wife Michele’s Kids Speak Out, Share Memorial Update

Rob Reiner and wife Michele Reiner’s kids are speaking out after the latest developments in their murder case.

“Jake and Romy Reiner remain grateful for the outpouring of love and support they have received,” Jake and Romy Reiner‘s spokesperson said in a statement to People on Monday, December 22. “They will share information about a memorial service honoring their parents at a later date.”

Jake and Romy’s brother Nick, 32, was arrested hours after the bodies of their parents were found with stab wounds in their Brentwood, California, home on December 14. Nick was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder. If convicted, he faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

Nick appeared in court for the first time on Thursday, December 17, but did not enter a plea. His arraignment date is set for January 7, 2026. Alan Jackson, known for representing Karen Read, is serving as Nick’s legal counsel in the case.

Jackson addressed reporters outside the courtroom after Nick’s first court appearance.

“First of all, and most importantly, this is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family,” Jackson said. “We all recognize that. Our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family. There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case. Those need to be thoroughly, but very carefully dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed.”

He continued, “We asked that you allow the system to move forward in the way that it was designed to move forward, not with a rushed judgment, not with jumping to conclusions, but with restraint and with dignity, and with the respect that this system and this process deserves, and that the family deserves,” the statement continued. “So with that we are set for January 7 for an arraignment. That’s the next court date and that’s all I have to say at this point. There may be more at some other point, but today we are going to rest on where we stand procedurally, which is this is a continuance of arraignment. Nothing happened today, substantively. We’ll be back for an arrangement in the same department on January 7. We’ll see you then.”

Following Nick’s first court appearance, Jake, 34, and Romy, 27, released a statement of their own.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends,” they jointly told TMZ.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life,” the statement continued. “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined Rob and Michele’s manner of death to be a homicide, and their official cause of death was confirmed to be “multiple sharp force injuries.” He was 78 and she was 70.
